TRAD UK is again celebrating a prestigious win as part of Altrad’s annual meeting in Montpellier, France. Our HSEQ and Transport Manager, Nick Smith, won the President’s Award for HSE Individual Contribution.
Nick has driven our Health & Safety campaign to reduce the risk of harm to our employees and workers and those who could be harmed by our operations. Nick also acts as a superb ambassador and helps promote the brand awareness of TRAD UK and also for our parent company, Altrad.
While pushing an improved HSEQT culture with passion, Nick has shared learnt lessons via briefings, bulletins, and weekly newsletters, which are distributed within all levels of the organisation, from senior management / director level through to our yard labourers and site operatives.
Nick has been instrumental in implementing our Personnel Engagement Programme, which is designed to improve engagement with our employees and workers at site and depot level, while also putting into operation additional bespoke training for our drivers, over and above CPC, elevating the driving standards and general Health & Safety within our fleet.
In addition, Nick has bred a culture of healthy competition, where our depots compete for our own Health & Safety awards. These awards are designed to help drive the standards upwards, with three singular awards for Quality, Health & Safety and Transport, these category winners are judged with an overall winner being announced at our yearly Sales Convention.
Not only is Nick recognised within TRAD UK and the wider Altrad Group, but also within the wider construction industry. He is an established member of the Health & Safety and Technical committees of two important trade bodies, FASET and EPF, where he is involved in the production of guidance which ultimately can save lives.
“We were delighted to win the President’s Award for HSE Individual Contribution,” says Colin Dobson, MD at TRAD UK. “We are rightly proud of Nick, his team and all of our staff, who are all instrumental in implementing Nick’s vision and initiatives.” Colin continued, “Altrad has over 65,000 employees in 380 subsidiaries in 54 countries round the world and, with only 3 HSE awards being presented every year, for Nick to be recognised, and TRAD UK to be honoured in this way, is a massive achievement.
