The Regency Mansion at Attingham Park, Shropshire is a Grade 1 listed building owned by the National Trust. The history of the Attingham Park Estate can be traced back to the year 1700, when the Hill family (later to become the Lords Berwick), purchased the original land, which was expanded to circa 8,000 Acres over the next century.
The size of the Estate was reduced in the early half of the 20th Century, as the last Lord and Lady Berwick sold off approximately half the land to fund the restoration of the mansion. This left nearly 4,000 acres, which the National Trust has now managed for over 70 years.
In keeping with the National Trust’s strive to preserve our national heritage, and as restorations unfortunately don’t last forever, a package of minor works were awarded in the latter part of 2021. This required a full perimeter access scaffold to complete such tasks as pointing repairs, leadworks and decoration.
Like for many buildings of its type, as it attracts many members of the public throughout the year, to minimise disruption and to not spoil the attraction, any scaffold used had to be neat, tidy and aesthetically pleasing and be erected quickly, while not compromising safety in any way. Hence why, when awarded the contract Total Construction & Scaffolding Ltd of Telford chose TRAD’s Plettac Metrix system.
TRAD’s Plettac Metrix system is a proprietary modular rosette scaffolding system that, since launch seven years ago, has been used on a wide range of restoration, industrial, residential and commercial construction projects in the UK and beyond.
“We are delighted to be working on this important project with the team at Total,” said Alan Slater, Head of Technical and Product Support at TRAD UK. “It’s clear from this and many of our other projects across the UK that the Metrix system scaffold is suitable for all types of work, including restoration projects such as this. And that’s because it is much easier and safer to erect and dismantle, helping contractors to make measurable efficiencies on site without compromising health and safety – in fact, using system scaffolding usually improves H&S on site. System is also so much neater than traditional forms of scaffolding, no protruding tubes, etc., it is simply much easier on the eye.”
The NASC is recognised as the national trade body for access and scaffolding in the UK, producing a wide range of industry guidance for scaffolding contractors, their operatives and their clients. Members of the NASC are strictly regulated to ensure a continuous high standard of scaffolding practice.
